Minds Matter NYC

Today was Family Day with Minds Matter NYC — an opportunity for mentors to meet the families behind the students we support. I was especially moved by the genuine interest and commitment the parents and guardians showed. It’s clear they are deeply invested in their children’s success. We had the chance to share more about Minds Matter’s long-term commitment to guiding students through high school, college, and beyond. It was a meaningful reminder that mentorship works best when families, mentors, and students move forward together.

Minds Matter NYC

This week marked my second day volunteering with Minds Matter NYC. Mentors and students spent time discussing the realities of college—its challenges, its benefits, and why it matters. Themes like self-doubt, debt, and the importance of building a network surfaced throughout the conversation. The discussion was thoughtful and honest, and it brought me back to the same mix of excitement and uncertainty I felt when I was in their shoes. Moments like this reinforce why mentorship matters, especially at pivotal stages of growth.

Minds Matter NYC

This week, I joined Minds Matter NYC as a mentor. The organization supports driven students from low-income families by providing the preparation, guidance, and access they need to succeed in college and beyond. Education has always felt like one of the most powerful drivers of social and economic mobility, and this work is personal—I’ve been in the shoes of many of these students. Today was my first session, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to pour into them, share a few lessons along the way, and support their journey through high school and into college. Completely worth giving up a Saturday.

Baruch College

I spent this week volunteering with Executives on Campus (EOC) at Baruch College, meeting with three students as part of their mentorship program. We talked through their goals, career questions, and the challenges they’re navigating early on. The experience brought me back to my own time at Baruch and reminded me how valuable it is to have someone in your corner when you’re just getting started. I hope our conversations were as helpful to them as they were meaningful for me.

Grassroots Grocery

Today I joined about 170 volunteers in the East Bronx with @Grassroots Grocery, spending the morning packing and distributing fresh produce for families across the city. The energy was contagious. Dan, the founder, kept everyone moving with purpose — and by the end, you could feel a real sense of community in the air. I’ve had my share of hungry nights growing up, but experiences like this put things in perspective. Access to fresh produce shouldn’t be a privilege. This was a light-lift, high-impact event I’d recommend for all ages — especially for families looking to introduce kids to community service in a hands-on way. Each hour counts, and this was two spent well.
